The Problem

Your roofer says, “Call your solar company.”
Your solar company says, “Call your roofer.”

You are not alone. Many Florida homeowners get stuck when they need a new roof but have solar panels installed. Roofers usually will not replace the roof with panels in the way, and some solar installers are slow, unavailable, out of business, or too expensive for a detach-and-reset project.

SunUnplug solves that gap. One team handles the solar panel removal, safe storage, roofer coordination, reinstall, reconnection, and production check, even if we did not install your original system.

“My roofer could not start until the panels were removed, and my original solar installer was booked out for months. SunUnplug coordinated the removal and reinstall so the roof project could move forward.” Florida homeowner
How It Works

Three steps. One coordinated process.

From the first call to your solar system producing again, we help keep the roofing and solar work moving together.

1

Test + remove

First we test the system, so any existing issue gets flagged before we touch anything. Then we shut down safely and remove the panels, rails, and wiring.

  • Pre-removal production test on array and inverter
  • Panels labeled, wiring layout documented
  • Stored where you want them. Garage, patio, side of the house
2

Re-roof

Your roofer gets a clean, panel-free roof. Most re-roofs wrap up in 2–3 days. We time the removal so your system is offline for as little as possible.

  • Works with your roofer
  • Schedule coordination
  • Roofer referrals available when needed
3

Reinstall

Once your new roof is ready, we reinstall the panels, reconnect the system, inspect the components, and verify that your solar production is back online.

  • Reinstall and reconnection
  • All-new mounting bases, screws & flashings (old ones lose their waterproof seal)
  • Production checked after completion

What's Included

Everything you need to test, remove, and reinstall your solar panels.

More than a detach and reinstall. A full system reset, tested before and after. One clear quote, no confusion between your roofer and your solar contractor.

System check before we start

Before we start the detach, we run a full production test on the array and inverter. If there's an existing issue, you'll know now, not after the reinstall. Panel count, roof timeline, and access are confirmed during the quote.

Full panel and rail removal

Panels, rails, flashing, and attachments removed carefully. Each panel labeled and the exact wiring layout documented. So the reinstall puts everything back in the original configuration.

Safe storage

Panels stored where you want. Garage, patio, side of the house. They're already weather-rated, but we label, stack on pallets, and bag the wiring and microinverters for a clean reinstall.

Roofer coordination

We stay in sync with your roofer so the panels come off before roofing starts and go back on after the new roof is ready.

Reinstall and reconnection

All-new mounting bases, screws, and flashings. The old hardware loses its waterproof seal when removed. Wiring reconnected per the original layout. Inverter checked and system brought back online.

Production verified before & after

Same production test before removal and after reinstall, confirming every panel and the inverter match the pre-removal baseline. You get the readings for your records.

Workmanship coverage

We stand behind the reinstall work and document what was completed.

FAQ

Common questions, clear answers.

If your question is not here, send us a message and we will follow up to review your project.

Can I replace my roof without removing my solar panels?
In most cases, no. Roofers usually cannot replace a roof while solar panels are installed above the work area. Your system should be shut down, removed, stored safely, then reinstalled and reconnected after the new roof is complete.SunUnplug handles the full detach/reinstall cycle. That's our entire business.
How long does solar panel removal and reinstall take?
Most residential systems can be removed in one day. Reinstall usually takes 1–2 days after the new roof is ready. The full project window often depends on your roofer's schedule, but many projects are completed in about 5–10 days end to end.removed in one day, stored safely while your roof is replaced, then reinstalled and reconnected over 1–2 days. Total time depends on your roofer's window. Most projects wrap up in 5–10 days end to end.
How much does solar panel removal and reinstall cost in Florida?
Cost depends on the number of panels, roof type, system complexity, access, and location. After reviewing your address and system details, we provide a clear quote before work begins.$2,500 to $6,500 for the full detach, storage, and reinstall cycle. Commercial and large multi-array systems are quoted separately. We provide a fixed-price quote up front. No add-ons mid-project.
Will removing my solar panels void my warranty?
Proper removal and reinstall should be handled by a qualified solar contractor using the correct process. We document the work and take care to protect your panels, inverter, wiring, and roof attachments.SunUnplug uses manufacturer-approved methods to detach, store, and reinstall your system, preserving your panel and inverter warranties. We provide written documentation for your records and for your insurance.
What if my original solar installer is out of business?
We can help with systems installed by other companies. Many homeowners need detach-and-reinstall service because their original installer is unavailable, slow to respond, or no longer operating. That's exactly why we exist. SunUnplug services solar systems regardless of who installed them. Tesla, Sunrun, defunct local installers, or even DIY. We're brand-agnostic and have records of working with all major equipment in the Florida market.
Do you coordinate with my roofer?
Yes. Coordination is one of the most important parts of the service. We schedule the removal before roofing starts and plan the reinstall once your roofer confirms the new roof is ready.
Will my electric bill increase while the system is offline?
Yes, your home will use grid power while the system is disconnected. We coordinate the schedule to keep the offline period as short as possible.$80–$150 in extra utility cost. We factor this into your project timeline to keep it as short as possible.
Will the new roof leak around the panels after reinstall?
Not when the right hardware is used. The mounting bases, screws, and flashings from the original install can't go back on. They lose their waterproof seal once removed. SunUnplug installs brand-new attachments at every reinstall and seals every penetration to current code, so your new roof stays watertight under the panels just like everywhere else.
Where will my panels be stored while the roof is replaced?
Wherever's convenient for you. Most customers prefer their garage, but the side of the house, a corner of the patio, or a covered driveway all work fine. The panels are already weather-rated (they live on your roof), so a few days outside doesn't hurt them. We label everything, stack panels on pallets, and bag the wiring and microinverters.
What areas of Florida do you serve?
We serve homeowners across Florida, including Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Sarasota, Naples, Fort Myers, Lakeland, Clearwater, Kissimmee, and nearby areas. If you are not sure whether we cover your area, call us and we will check.Central, South, and West Florida: Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Sarasota, Naples, Fort Myers, Lakeland, Clearwater, Kissimmee, and surrounding areas. If you're outside these zones, call us. We still might be able to help.
